Drivers for Arena, LucasChess and Shredder
Quote from Graham on March 11, 2021, 10:49 pmHi Liquinaut,
Sorry for the delay in replying. Thank you for your comments and I'm glad the software works well for you. I like playing in Shredder as I find the adjustment to the strength of the engine based on your previous games works quite well.
Thanks,
Graham

Quote from Graham on March 21, 2021, 11:26 pmI have updated my driver. The new version (1.3) is available on my web page for Arena and Shredder and is already installed in LucasChess from release R1.16.
https://goneill.co.nz/chess.php
The changes are:
Misplaced pieces
During the New Game, New Position or Registration process the screen will now highlight which pieces are not in the correct position.LucasChess take backs
From LucasChessR version 1.16 you no longer have to press the Takeback button after each pair of taken back moves. Now LucasChess will automatically update itself after you take back both the computer's last move and your own.Improved display of take backs
When the LEDs are set to show only when the computer moves, or not at all, the display of the LEDs during take backs has been improved.Log read errors
While I was attaching chips to my new pieces it was useful to see if the weights were affecting the board scanning. So I added this option to write any read errors to the program log file.Regards,
Graham

first thanks a lot for your work. I use your drivers with Shredder and in LucasChess. So I have even more fun with the lovely Certabo boards.
A question: do you plan to support the Bluetooth functionality from the Certabo boards ? That would be great
Tobias

Hi Tobias,
I've just completed adding Bluetooth support. It's on my web page (https://goneill.co.nz/chess.php) and should be included in the next LucasChess release (R 1.18 I think).
Enjoy!

Quote from tobias on April 2, 2021, 2:35 pmHi Graham,
that's really great.
Unfortunately I can get no connection to BT. BT works fine with the original Certabo Software from Pietro and also with the new version of BearChess from Lars.
When I try it in Shredder with your new driver, I get no connection to BT. If I open the control panel I can choose "Bluetooth" as connection type, but then nothing happens. I can continue using cable but no chance for BT.
The log-file says "connection error, BT connection failed"
Any idea ?
Thanks
Tobias

Quote from tobias on April 5, 2021, 9:26 amHi Graham,
that's great. I tested the new version 1.41 from today and it worked instantly. I changed the BT-connection several times between Pietros Certabo, Lars BearChess and your driver in Shredder. No problems. Hope I find time to play a longer time, but I am confident, it will be stable.
Thanks a lot.

Quote from julkal on August 20, 2021, 8:55 amAs I´m a not really happy, that take back pieces with Android phone is really not very comfortable in chess for Android and unfortunately doesn´t work in Certabodroid I plan to buy the bloothoth modul and use it with Shredder or Arena.
Maybe is it possible to cast (mirror) the PC screen with casting Software and using Certabo blootooth modul with your driver at the same time, so that I can see the screen, when sitting in an other room (as I really don´t like sitting next to PC when playing chess.....) I know, not a perfect solution as I can only look at the screen but can´t use it for setting up something but still better than nothing.
By the way: Most chess friend´s I know prefer playing with smartphone/board and not with PC/board. So there should be a solution, as take back pieces is absolutely basic function.....And honestly Certabodroid has everything you need to play chess and it´s really comfortable and easy to use...much more comfortable than the Certabo PC software.....but no take back, which makes playing against engines for training purpose a little bit frustrating.
AND: Your driver works wonderful and as Shredder and Arena is much more comfortable to use than the Certabo software it is a perfect solution for PC users....... Especially with Shredder.Julian

Quote from Graham on August 28, 2021, 4:23 amHi Julian,
Sorry for the late reply! I'm glad you find my driver useful, but as you probably know I am not involved in the official Certabo software so can't help with adding take backs there. Pietro is updating his software all the time though so I'm sure it's on its way!
For your smartphone you could look into an app that will allow you to control your PC remotely. I haven't played with these (although I have used TeamViewer for remote PC-PC access and it works well) but it might be worth looking into. It would be a better option than just casting the screen.
Since you use Shredder for training you'll probably like my next update. I'm making it much easier to set up starting positions using the Certabo board. Hopefully it will be ready in a week or two...
All the best,
Graham

Quote from julkal on August 28, 2021, 6:15 pmYea, that´s the solution to go. I just tried Microsoft remote desktop app with Shredder and it´s so fast, that it feels like playing directly with the PC. Wonderful! And it´s much cheaper than buying a Windows Tablet.
And: Yes, Pietro is very busy in developing new "things".
