Lichess and chess.com online play
Quote from camfisher_nz on September 13, 2019, 10:33 amHi all (I feel like I'm the only one to post here),
I've used the new online software to play many games on both Lichess and chess.com. The most enjoyable game to date was a Saturday afternoon game versus the esteemed Pietro - the driving force of Certabo. While he sipped a breakfast coffee in Italy, I was enjoying a evening beer as wei defended like my life depended on it. In the end I lost on time.
It's important to make sure that you set everything up exactly as the user guide states, or it simply won't work at all. When setting up a game, it's best to have a 15 second increment each move to take in to account the delay on the board indicating the moves. The good thing about the two big sites is that there is always plenty of opponents ready to play, which unfortunately I found very lacking on FICS.
Here's a link to a video of the first few moves of the game versus Pietro. Enjoy!

I too have played on chess.com with the new software and found it very simple to use. I have approximately 2-3 seonds delay from when the PC registers the move and Certabo board shows it. This is very manageable for me since I dont play bullet or blitz and as you recommend with an increment it shouldn't be an issue.
I am very happy with my Certabo board and with Pietro and the team. I really didn't expect them to be able to interface with any of the "big three" online sites. So the fact they have done it with two, so far, means the Board's value has increased significantly, at least for me.
The medium sized board is perfect for my needs and I even took it with me when I went on holiday recently!

Quote from camfisher_nz on September 20, 2019, 8:21 pmHi Mark, I have found that it's not necessary to wait for the LEDs to indicate the opponent move before moving the its peice. I sometimes just look at the on-screen board to see the move and just make it to save a time.

Quote from bryan.whitby on September 27, 2019, 6:10 pmOne way to revolve your board when playing online is to put "Lazy Susan" underneath it. IKEA sell a good cheap wooden one. Details found here.

Before I found the IKEA one, I just used a Lazy Susan bearing fixed to a couple pieces of MDF. Here is mine in action here on YouTube.

...and Bryan, I like the lazy susan idea. Can you detach the top circular piece of wood? At 39cm its too big for my smaller board and I'm thinking of just using the swivel mechanism attached directly to the board.
camfisher_nz, thanks for the tip!

There are two options you could do. (1) Just turn it over as the base plate is 17cm wide. (2) Just saw the top plate into a 37cm square.
I actually bought just a Lazy Susan bearing from here which I fixed it to a couple of pieces of 6mm MDF

Lichess allows takebacks and I received a couple of requests yesterday. How does the Certabo software handle this if the takeback request is accepted?

Quote from Pietro on September 29, 2019, 9:55 pmHello Cameron
To do this you should accept takeback and then the pieces will go in previous state then you should fix the board accordingly otherwise led will will turn on inviting to fix. It shall work that way we tested on chess.com will double check on lichess too.
p.s. really enjoyed the game in front of nice coffee while you had evening beer, power of internet!! And also great great defence of that position i could not get there whatsoever.
Bryan that was cool job on turning table, btw we will fix the flipping board option so we shall be able to add a simple option to flip the board when playing with black so no need to physically rotate the board.
All the best
Pietro
