Opening Books

PreviousPage 2 of 2

Hi again Paul

On top of what Graham said want to ask if you tried to increase the depth of search of opponent. You need to go bit deeper to allow some time to search in the book so you may start seeing some variations.

We have set a default depth of 20 but if you want to go much deeper there is a trick 🙂 run the software with --maxdepth option (python3 main.py --maxdepth xx)  followed by a number 50 or 100 the menu will change and let you select higher depth.  The opponent computation time can increase quite a bit and on Pi it may take quite long time but you can always force a move.

All the best

Pietro

Hey Pietro,

you were right in that I started with a lower depth setting (and a very low engine skill level) because I wanted to play some chess and not get shattered on the battlefield from the very beginning 😀

I did as you suggested and set the depth level back to 20, but unfortunately the results are the same (and since DaVinci uses the chosen opening book the depth level does not increase calculation time here). Still there's no variation in the chosen opening moves. e2e4 is always answered with e7e5 and so on. You can probably reproduce this by starting a game a few times with an opening book and play e2e4.

Maybe I have something else misconfigured? Who knows 😉

All the best,

Paul

P.S.: Thanx Graham for pointing me to your Book Converter. Unfortunately I don't have Windows running on any of my machines, but maybe I'll create a dedicated partition for it, as it seems very interesting!
