Piece diameters?
Quote from fncll on November 7, 2020, 4:35 pmCould you share the base diameters of the different pieces you sell? That would help me make a decision on the pieces to go with the board!

Quote from Pietro on November 7, 2020, 5:01 pmHi there again!
Do you mean the tag size or the actual pieces set 3,5 and 3,75"?
For the tags we have 20mm which is standard all around and comes by default with any board. We also got recently the 25mm and 30mm mainly for bigger board. We plan to upgrade the default standard set for bigger board with 25mm One which should be perfect with most of sets from 3,5 and above which are normally used with those Fazio and Curzio boards. For even bigger set the 30mm or combined 25+30 can be used.
For pieces will confirm.

Quote from Gerald on November 10, 2020, 8:49 amI believe there are only two sizes of boards and two sizes of pieces and they match.
Pietro to confirm but I think you should not use the smaller piece set on the larger boards nor the way around.
Electronically it will work but it will look odd. You could cheap out and take the smaller pieces on the larger boards, but I doubt the larger pieces will work on the smaller boards. I have a smaller board and matching pieces and they are filling up the squares quite neatly already.

Quote from fncll on November 10, 2020, 5:12 pmI am not attempting to "cheap out." There are, in fact, four different pieces being sold, each with its own height. Also, FYI, there are also three different square sizes on Certabo boards: 35, 45, 55mm.
Since height is less important to me than how crowded the pieces look on the board---and since that is a personal aesthetic preference---the actual diameter of the base of the pieces matters more to me than their height.
That is why I politely request the diameter of the *pieces* themselves, so I can determine if it makes sense for me to purchase one of those or just some chip sets to enable other pieces I will purchase elsewhere.
Thanks!

Quote from Pietro on November 10, 2020, 6:23 pmHello guys
Actually we have for chips sizes 15-16 , 20,25,30 but the smaller one is naked as it's starting to be difficult to have encapsulated chips below 20mm.
The 15mm chips are mounted on the 2,5" set size where is not possible to drill a 20mm hole in the base as you need to leave about 2-3mm of wood around to avoid it may break and otherwise they become not well proportioned. On the 2,75" we use the standard 20mm we made bit taller pieces and shrinked as much as we could the base of the pawns.
On the 3,5" set we use the 20mm chips, too and the size of that is 3.5" set is see below. This was before we actally introduced the 25 and 30mm. Theoretically you can drill 25 holes on most of them apart pawns but actuall expect on King and Queen the wood thickness around will be too marginal
King H=87 base =32
Queen h= 74 base =32
Bishop h=61 base=29
Knight h=58 base=29
Rook h=46 base=29
Pawn h=42 base=26On the 3,75" the base is bigger and we have 25mm on big pieces and 20mm on pawn + steel disk for bit of weight not much but there is some weight all of those above are embedded. If instead you plan to stick you shall assume that there is enough diameter to not have the chips overhanging so on commercial 3,5 and above you can put for sure 25+30 or all 30 on piece below 3,5 a combination of 20+25. Going above 30mm is not really useful also on 55mm board because for the reading the two antennas in board and coil need just some bit of overlap or even just contiguity and with a 30mm chip on big board this means the piece is really offset and nobody will play with pieces like on the board as the piece is going to overlap closer square.
Small tags on big board are not problem only thing is that the offset detection will increase and be better with larger diameter. Bigger chips on small board are not reccomended because the will start to disturb becasue for example a 30mm chips in center of 35mm square may overlap also with other squares from a detection point of view as the may fall in detection cone of closer square too but in the end they are not really needed as the 20mm will guarantee good offset anyhow.
Hope this helps and all the best and stay healthy
