Dear Forum Members,
maybe someone has a way to fix the following problem:
The Skill Level Setting does not affect the playing strength of the different Stockfish Engines. I tested it with SF 12, 11 and 8 (8 because it´s part of the DGT Pi, where the skill level works properly). Stockfish on Level 20 is like 500 Elopoints better than Magnus Carlsen, and on level 1 he plays - without an openingbook and on the White site - like this: 1.e3 e5 2.Nc3 d5 3.d4 e4 4.Sge2 Nf6 5.Bd2 and Black won in Stockfish 8, Level 1 - Richter 🙂
Now I tested SF 12 on the Davinci without any opening book, and SF 12 again had White. I started with Level 8:
1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 c5 4.c3 Qb6 5.Nf3 Bd7 6.Be2 cxd4 7.cxd4 Bb5 8.Nc3 Bxe2 9.Nxe2 Bb4+ 10.Kf1! (witch I would call a GM Move) Nc6 11.h4 (11. and 12. are also GM Moves) h6 12.h5 and White is clearly better. This seemed a bit odd to me, as SF 12 on Level 8 should´t play moves like 10.Kf1 and 11.h4 and so on.
I tested it on a different GUI and it´s correct SF 12 on Lev 8 plays like this: 10.Kf1!(o.k., I was wrong) Nc6 (but now:) 11.Lf4? (pointless) Be7 12.g3 Bd8 13.Kg2 Nge7 14.Nc3 Nf5 15.Rb1 0-0 and Black is o.k. German Chess Players would call that "Schablone", just moves, but without a goal.
On Level 1 Black wins like this: 10.Nd2? Nc6 11.Qa4 Nge7 12.a3 Bxd2+ 13.Bxd2 Qxb2 14.Qd1 Nxd4 and Black is 2 pawns up and winning 🙂 (Just Level 1).
But on Davinci with the Levels 1, 4, 8 and 12. White played - without any book always the very same moves. And those moves are the same of Stockfish 12 on Fritz GUI and an 8 Core Notbook with Skill Level 20.
With SF 11 and 8 on Davinci there where different games, but always the same playing strength, no matter witch Skill Level I choosed.
So one could say, that I´m not able to change the engine strength with the skill level.
Please tell me: How to fix this?
